Conscious Business – Call for Papers

Pete Burden and I are the guest editors for the winter edition of eOrganisations & People (eO&P) on the subject of Conscious Business.  If you would like to write a paper for the journal we would very much like to hear from you.

We are looking at papers from practitioners, academics, consultants – basically anyone who has anything thoughtful to say.  One angle that we are particularly interested in centres around the challenges people face in making conscious business a part of their day-to-day reality.

Writing is not just about writing.  We are looking for this edition of eO&P to develop into further action and gatherings.  We don’t know what this might look like yet.  That is something that we will develop with authors and collaborators.

About conscious business

There are many definitions, but features we are drawn to include:

  • being profitable but with more than just financial goals
  • delivering value to a wide set of stakeholders
  • providing a safe place for human development and growth
  • where all involved have the power to influence outcomes
  • where transparency, communication and awareness are paramount

About eO&P

eO&P Is the journal of the AMED, the Association of Management Educators and Developers (Hyperlink to: http://www.amed.org.uk/) in the UK.  It is a quarterly journal written for both practitioners and academics who are involved in management and leadership development.

My experience lies in the various aspects of organisational change, particularly working with groups and individuals to understand the impact of change and the opportunities it offers. Areas of knowledge include: the formulation and implementation of Government policy; corporate strategy and planning; management control within organisational change; and public sector compliance. A common thread through much of my work is making sense of ambiguity and conflict. This includes the impact of newly introduced legislation and government policy, mergers between organisations, or their parts; and, the workings of multi-disciplinary groups. These experiences were a major influence on my doctorate on healthcare policymaking and the unpredictable and paradoxical impact it has on frontline staff practice. Areas explored in my thesis included the often unexamined implications of a scientific systems based approach to change and the impact this has on people. My thesis includes practical actions to improve policymaking.

  1. Yeah, I’ll be interested to write something. I think I’ve got some good examples of Conscious and not so conscious business from my working life. And I love writing. Keep me posted.

  2. Thanks Sam, it would be great to hear your ideas. Do you want to send us a brief outline – what is your area of interest, what part of the world are you looking at, who inspires you (or not as the case maybe) ….

    • Hi Rob. Thanks for sharing. I would love to write something about my experience and ideas around conscious businesses. In particular, about the the importance of a conscious leader and a conscious change management team in order for consciousness to be expanded inside an organisation. The leader and the team must be at the core of a conscious business. In my opinion, consciousness can not be bought and sold…you either have it or not…consciousness understood as the capcity of human beings to “Be”. I can share my experience in a process called “The Activation of the Soul” that is currently being applied in a real organisation in Southeast of Spain, where I have the luck and privilege to work in the Organisation and Quality Department.
Please let me know where I can send you my ideas.
      Thanks

      • Raul, that sounds really interesting and very relevant. You might want to have a look here: http://bit.ly/162yHHh for some more information, along with our contact details. What we need from you is a few paragraphs of what the article might cover and your areas of interest. Rob
